"A walk in nature walks the soul back home"

- Mary Davis -

Sometimes we just feel downright stuck.  The positive effect of movement paired with the healing power of nature can invite you to see your situation in a new way

Curious about inviting nature into the counselling "room"?

LET'S TAKE THERAPY

INTO THE GREAT OUTDOORS

There are plenty of reasons that someone might choose to engage in walk and talk therapy.  Here are a just a few to name:

  1. Goodness of Fit:  Perhaps sitting on a chair in a room across from a therapist is just not your thing.  We all have different needs and that's ok.

  2. Nature is a great co-therapist:  Research studies are continuing to suggest the benefits of green space and/or exposure to nature on both our physical and mental health (i.e. stress reduction, prevention of depression and anxiety, increased capacity for attention, etc.)

  3. Movement moves mood: Similarly, physical activity is being touted for not only physical health benefits, but for its positive impacts on stress and symptoms of anxiety and depression.

  4. The power of connection - both with humans and the natural world:  At times, connecting with animals and nature may come more easily. Some people additionally experience therapeutic benefits from connecting with a sense of something "larger" than ourselves.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Getting Started with Walk & Talk Therapy

01

Book a Consult and Intake Appt

Take advantage of a free 15 min initial consult to ask questions to see if I am a good fit for you.  If you choose to move forward, we will book an intake appointment. In this appointment, I learn more about you and your concerns to determine if walk and talk therapy is a good fit for you at this time.

*Please note this form of therapy is not always the most appropriate course of treatment. If it is determined your needs may best be served in another way, I will share with you some alternative options.

02

Trail Preparations

If after Step 1, we proceed with Walk & Talk Therapy, you will be given additional information to answer all your questions pertaining to trail locations, informed consent, confidentiality, and preparations.  Please note that this form of therapy is limited to specific days and trail choice may be determined based on availability.  All trails are located in or around the South Surrey to Langley bordering area.  Maps provided.

03

Meet, Walk and Talk!

We will start at our pre-determined meeting spot/location and begin!  Dealing with inclement weather will be discussed prior to our meeting.  All trails are walking trails with little to no obstructions.  This means they are safe and stroller-friendly if needed!

04

Ending the Appt

After our Walk and Talk session closes, it will be your choice to stay and soak up more nature, or to leave.  Follow up appts will be arranged through Janeapp, made available for current clients.  Walk and talk sessions are separately noted on the booking page.  Online sessions will continue to be an available option as well.

A few things to note...

Important to note are the differences between Walk and Talk Therapy and the use of movement/nature for recreational purposes.  Walk & Talk therapy is provided by a trained practitioner and utilized in a manner to meet collaborative goals to benefit your mental health and well-being.  While added benefits, the purpose is not to meet a fitness goal or to replicate the social/recreational benefit of walking in nature with a friend.
